Touristic town with a unique sea view
Balestrate, once called Sicciara, is a small town of 6000 inhabitants located on top of a hill with a fantastic view on the Gulf of Castellammare.
There are many free of charge beautiful sandy beaches as well as equipped lidi where you can hire a deck chair and relax in the sun with a cold drink. Several bars on the beach offer musical entertainment and disco dancing all night long.
Along Balestrate main road, via Madonna del Ponte, there are several shops and restaurants as well as the popular rosticcerie where you can have a take away and taste the typical delicacies of the Sicilian take away. Come and try our specialities as pane e panelle (breadrolls with gram flour omelette), panini con la milza, arancine (fried rice balls with Bolognese sauce), sfincioni" (a sort of pizza with anchovies) and much more.
And what about our delicious patisserie? Cassata Siciliana, cannoli with ricotta cheese, granite di limone (lemon slush).....are some of our tastiest culinary temptations . The main square, dominated by the Chiesa Madre di Sant'Anna is a lively meeting point for young and old people. In the summer the town organizes musical entertainments and traditional folkloric festivals like the popular " danza dei pastori " (dance of the shepherds).
